Get the London Look

22/03/2012 4 comments

Umm.. I mean the McLaren look. Now you can get the look of the McLaren boys… well, if you’re willing to part with some cash and wear the shades that is. 😉

Jenson was seen wearing a pair of decidely retro shades in Melbourne:

I believe Jenson was wearing the Oliver Peoples Sheldrake model, which will set you back $385-$405 USD at reputable retail stores (Nordstrom, Barneys, etc).

The Sheldrake is a unisex model, the right girl could also rock it:

If you prefer a more modern sporty look, you could try to emulate Lewis Hamilton:

Now you might be thinking “There’s a weird metal bar thing in the center of those glasses.” There is also another metal bar on the temple:

These metal ‘bars’ actually serve a purpose: they are in fact hinges. Yes, that’s right. These sunglasses are foldable. The range for women has been marketed as “Folding in Love.”

This foldable range of Prada sunglasses is quite new, they debuted for men in the A/W 2011. The retail on these is about $375 USD:

The range has also carried over into the S/S 2012 season:

What do you think about these sunglasses? As for me, I think Jenson has also beat his teammate this time round in Melbourne… 😉

What happened to Wolfman???

Apparently he turned into a wolf. I’m not sure going to join 5 Live F1 was such a good thing then… I miss the adorable Wolfman. :/ The one good thing about this photo is that I can now direct people to it when they ask me, “Why do you call Jaime Algersuari WOLFMAN of all things?” Simple. He looks like one… or a werewolf…

Fresh cuts

Grooming is a favorite topic here at the pitwalk. Some may wonder why I am particularly obsessed with it despite admitting that there are times when I do not even comb my hair*. The answer is, it is just the way I have been raised. Some members of my family are known to be quite particular about appearances and will not hesitate to tell me that I look sloppy.

I still remember an uncle asking my cousin if he had brushed his teeth one day. My cousin glibly replied, “Yes uncle, I have. My teeth are just yellow.” Oh boy, I had to restrain myself from laughing, because we were actually at a cemetery paying our respects.

It was a good thing I didn’t laugh either because that same uncle then turned to me and asked, “Did you comb your hair this morning? It looks a bit messy. When is the last time you had a haircut?” Ouch, it was my turn…

Because of my grooming fixation, I am always pleased when I see someone looking tidy or with a new look. I had considered doing a feature on the Best 2012 Haircuts. But when it came down to it… I couldn’t genuinely say I liked more than one haircut. This (dubious) honor goes to Heikki Kovalainen. Heikki’s new haircut isn’t terribly different from what he had before, it’s just shorter. While Heikki’s hair looks fine styled with gel, I think I prefer it without the gel. I think it’s more flattering and makes him look more approachable.

*In my defense, I have long hair, so I do not get bedhead. My workplace is also located in a windy part of town, so even if I did comb it at home, I have to recomb at my cubicle. And yes, I have been known to do so at my cube. Just sayin’.

Driver Spotlight : Charles Pic

It was only a matter of time before a new driver appeared with good hair. The last newbie with good hair was of course, Hartley. While I wouldn’t say Pic has the best hair in F1 just yet… he does have the best hair amongst the F1 newbs. 😉

Although, Pic’s hair doesn’t look so great under a cap:

Pic also appears to have a dimple… although it’s not the ideal type (it’s a bit high on the cheek). I’m sure some will find it cute and endearing though:

Isabell Reis goes green

It has been just about forever since my last F1 WAG fashion post, hasn’t it? Well, there’s no better way to kick off the Australian GP than with the always cute, Isabell Reis:

Isabell was spotted in Melbourne wearing a simple scoop neck tshirt with green skinny jeans. She also wore black and green bracelets, the green one almost looked a bit like a jade bangle. However, upon further inspection, there was a gold ring around the edge, so it may be an enamel bangle. The look was completed with a feminine black peeptoe shoe with bows.

Colored denim is everywhere now, especially with the color blocking trend. I think it can look a bit 80’s, so one must be careful with styling. Personally, I have already gone off the deep end and worn red and kelly green denim myself. Yes, despite the fear of looking like a Female EJ, I did it. And so can you (if you want…).

If you want to replicate Isabell’s look, it will be a bit difficult. Hey, it’s just jeans and a tshirt, how hard could it be? Well, there lies the rub. The tshirt must be quite fitted, even at the sleeve. In addition, the sleeve is also a bit long, so avoid cap sleeves for a true re-creation. I found a few different shirts available at all price points.

If you’re feeling a bit ‘rich,’ you may consider a fitted black tee from Splendid (retails $65USD @ stylebop.com)

There are cheaper tshirts available, but they tend to have a wider sleeve, so I won’t post them up here.

While colored denim is indeed everywhere… the replicating the tone of Isabell’s jeans will be a bit of a challenge. Many of the green jeans that are for sale are more saturated or completely the wrong tone. There are many brands selling mint green, kelly green, and emerald green jeans… but Isabell’s jeans appear to be more muted, a diluted cool green.

I found a pair on asos that is similar (but too short and slightly too warm obviously):

This pair from topshop may be close, but I fear it is a bit on the blue side:

Edit: After looking at additional photos, Isabell’s jeans may be more saturated than I thought. In that case, I have seen a number of cheap options…

I couldn’t find a cute replica of Isabell’s shoes, instead I found its uglier step-sister by Franco Sarto:

Isabell appears to be wearing a black wrap bracelet, which can be duped easily. Or if you are cheap like me, consider wrapping a thin leather belt around your wrist. This is only doable if the leather isn’t overly stiff. If you happen to have a jade bangle, that would work nicely. Otherwise, there are fun pieces at places like Forever 21:

Where did Seb get that?

Oh, isn’t that cute? Vettel was matchy matchy with his girlfriend~~~ They were both wearing parkas and white tops (although Vettel’s looks a little sweater-like). Vettel was also wearing a verrry familiar looking scarf. While I don’t track driver stats per se, I do tend to track their accessories.

So where have I seen this scarf before?

On Wolfman in Spa 2010, that’s where:

Perhaps Wolfman gave it to Vettel as a parting gift? Or maybe Vettel is just copping Wolfman’s style? Or is it Red Bull team gear? 😉 Who knows.

edit: It is in fact Red Bull team gear! Check out this photo I found of Vergne. If you enlarge it, the Red Bull logo can be seen. This is a rather clever graphic design isn’t it? Despite my hate for logos, I rather like this take on a geometric pattern…

Naturally the next question is, where can Red Bull fans get this scarf? I’m not sure, but the flagship store in Austria would be my best bet.
