Malaysian GP Grid Position Winners and Losers

So… what is the grid position “winners and losers”? I have alluded to the little game I play whilst watching a F1 race a few times on the blog. I’m pretty sure it is well understood. But for those who haven’t read those posts, a pictorial explanation is much easier (and funnier). Those that follow me on twitter may recall a rather bold statement where I claimed I would revolutionize the way my followers watch F1. So let’s get to it, eh?

The grid positions for each race is always divided up in groups of four. While they flash by on the screen, simply pick a “winner” and “loser” from each grouping. The sole factor for defining the “winner” and “loser” is the DRIVER PHOTO. This is a looks and photogenicity contest! Now, sometimes this is rather hard to decide because there may be more than one unattractive photo! Remember to play with your friends, it’s more fun that way. 😉

Is That You Jarno?

What happened to you Jarno? You’re so sunburnt uhhh ORANGE I mean uhh TAN! yeah!

And your hair???

What HAPPENED? Did you dye it yourself? I hope you didn’t pay a professional to do that! Please leave hair dye to the experts. That hair color is now the same tone as your skin, and it’s not working! 😦 If you paid someone, please go get your money back. Or have them redo it. 😦

Another Driver Contest

All right, this one isn’t based on physical appearance. But, which driver has the best/worst handwriting?

Wow. This is a tough call. Everyone’s handwriting is awful! Though to be fair they had to write at an awkward angle on the board. Hm.. should I rate it based on “potential” to look decent? If that’s the case, Webber might be the “best.” The M and W are about the same size and well spaced. But Timo’s handwriting could be all right too… As for worst, it’s a toss up. They all look pretty bad. However, Vettel’s Buemi’s B looks especially ugly and Jarno can compete with doctors in terms of messy nearly illegible scrawl…

eh… I DON’T KNOW. Can’t decide!

Snapple Fact About Jarno Trulli

He shaves his legs*.

Yeah, that’s it. That’s a Snapple Fact for you. What’s a Snapple Fact? Well, I snagged the definition from Wikipedia: Snapple is well-known for printing interesting numbered “facts” on the inside of their bottle caps. A list of these “Real Facts” is available on the company website.

Oh and if you don’t believe me, just look more closely at the photo I posted above. Look at the amount of hair on Jarno’s arm. Then have a look at his leg. Noticeable difference right? Well, it shouldn’t come as a surprise as he likes cycling. This entry was supposed to be short like a “Snapple Fact.” Hmm fail. -_-

* OK, I don’t know if he shaves them. Maybe he gets them waxed. Or he could use Nair. Or laser hair removal. Get the drift ya?

Winnar of the Best Driver Photo Award

Well, I haven’t looked at the official driver photos yet (because nekoball’s computer became inoperational and as a result I could not watch the race*…) so I am basing my decision off various unofficial photos instead.

Besides the actual race, one of the best things about race day is looking at the driver lineup with the driver photos. Why? Because most of the photos are really really unflattering. Haha. But, I have decided to crown Jarno Trulli as the winner of the best driver photo for 2010. I get a nice feeling from his photo. He isn’t stiff, he looks comfortable in front of the camera, and the smile actually looks real. So here’s the photo that I think is the best out of all the drivers on and off the grid:

* We like to watch the BBC coverage… but it is not available on TV due to geographical location. We get to watch it through the magic of the internet and bt. I heard from a classmate that F1 is broadcast on some cable channel (I forget which one it was), but it doesn’t matter, I like BBC. 😛

Murse Battle

Murses (man-purses aka “man bags”) are getting more and more mainstream, at least in America. I’m not too sure about Europe, but murses are quite common in Asia.

Anyway, let’s have a murse battle now. First we have Jarno Trulli’s bag vs Nick Heidfeld’s bag.

To the casual observer, both murses look like attache-briefcase type bags. Upon closer inspection, there are differences to be found.

Nick’s bag has a side pocket which is large enough for a water bottle in case he wants to stay hydrated like Lewis Hamilton. Jarno’s bag does not appear to have such a compartment due to the construction of the bag. +1 Nick

Jarno’s murse on the other hand has two accordion-like compartments, which is excellent for organization. Nick’s only has one large compartment. +1 Jarno

Features that are visible on Nick’s murse (but not on Jarno’s) are: a strap (located at the back), an unzippered back pocket. I can’t give Nick any extra points here since I’m not sure if Jarno’s bag has any of these things or not (though it’s quite likely Jarno’s has a strap as well).

So there we have it… it’s a tie I suppose. Perhaps a better question would be who wore his murse better? I would have to go with Nick as Jarno’s outfit is so so terrible. The yoga pants.. the little ponytail.. is Jarno the last samurai or something? OMG my eyes … I can barely focus on the bag as the rest of the outfit is so distracting.

PS Nick you’re not much better since your pants are reminiscent of the “houser” days of the 90s.
