Apparently he turned into a wolf. I’m not sure going to join 5 Live F1 was such a good thing then… I miss the adorable Wolfman. The one good thing about this photo is that I can now direct people to it when they ask me, “Why do you call Jaime Algersuari WOLFMAN of all things?” Simple. He looks like one… or a werewolf…
Grooming is a favorite topic here at the pitwalk. Some may wonder why I am particularly obsessed with it despite admitting that there are times when I do not even comb my hair*. The answer is, it is just the way I have been raised. Some members of my family are known to be quite particular about appearances and will not hesitate to tell me that I look sloppy.
I still remember an uncle asking my cousin if he had brushed his teeth one day. My cousin glibly replied, “Yes uncle, I have. My teeth are just yellow.” Oh boy, I had to restrain myself from laughing, because we were actually at a cemetery paying our respects.
It was a good thing I didn’t laugh either because that same uncle then turned to me and asked, “Did you comb your hair this morning? It looks a bit messy. When is the last time you had a haircut?” Ouch, it was my turn…
Because of my grooming fixation, I am always pleased when I see someone looking tidy or with a new look. I had considered doing a feature on the Best 2012 Haircuts. But when it came down to it… I couldn’t genuinely say I liked more than one haircut. This (dubious) honor goes to Heikki Kovalainen. Heikki’s new haircut isn’t terribly different from what he had before, it’s just shorter. While Heikki’s hair looks fine styled with gel, I think I prefer it without the gel. I think it’s more flattering and makes him look more approachable.
*In my defense, I have long hair, so I do not get bedhead. My workplace is also located in a windy part of town, so even if I did comb it at home, I have to recomb at my cubicle. And yes, I have been known to do so at my cube. Just sayin’.
It was only a matter of time before a new driver appeared with good hair. The last newbie with good hair was of course, Hartley. While I wouldn’t say Pic has the best hair in F1 just yet… he does have the best hair amongst the F1 newbs. 😉
It has been just about forever since my last F1 WAG fashion post, hasn’t it? Well, there’s no better way to kick off the Australian GP than with the always cute, Isabell Reis:
Isabell was spotted in Melbourne wearing a simple scoop neck tshirt with green skinny jeans. She also wore black and green bracelets, the green one almost looked a bit like a jade bangle. However, upon further inspection, there was a gold ring around the edge, so it may be an enamel bangle. The look was completed with a feminine black peeptoe shoe with bows.
Colored denim is everywhere now, especially with the color blocking trend. I think it can look a bit 80’s, so one must be careful with styling. Personally, I have already gone off the deep end and worn red and kelly green denim myself. Yes, despite the fear of looking like a Female EJ, I did it. And so can you (if you want…).
If you want to replicate Isabell’s look, it will be a bit difficult. Hey, it’s just jeans and a tshirt, how hard could it be? Well, there lies the rub. The tshirt must be quite fitted, even at the sleeve. In addition, the sleeve is also a bit long, so avoid cap sleeves for a true re-creation. I found a few different shirts available at all price points.
There are cheaper tshirts available, but they tend to have a wider sleeve, so I won’t post them up here.
While colored denim is indeed everywhere… the replicating the tone of Isabell’s jeans will be a bit of a challenge. Many of the green jeans that are for sale are more saturated or completely the wrong tone. There are many brands selling mint green, kelly green, and emerald green jeans… but Isabell’s jeans appear to be more muted, a diluted cool green.
Isabell appears to be wearing a black wrap bracelet, which can be duped easily. Or if you are cheap like me, consider wrapping a thin leather belt around your wrist. This is only doable if the leather isn’t overly stiff. If you happen to have a jade bangle, that would work nicely. Otherwise, there are fun pieces at places like Forever 21:
Did everyone like watching F1 in HD? I sure did (ok… I had to settle for 320p resolution for quali since that was available more quickly at the time). Every bead of sweat, every pore… and every dress shirt in almost alarming detail. Yay! 😀
HD means better screen caps for this blog… although I had help from @MisterPigz with this because he had higher quality video sources than I did for both quali and race.
During quali, EJ showed the world that he could not be possibly one upped by me. Indeed, I was quite right : plaid/paisley is a winning combi for EJ. All right, EJ is technically wearing gingham/paisley, but it’s close enough. I made the call two months ago anyway.
As for DC, he really likes this blue shirt with breast pockets, because he wore that shirt at least three times in 2010. Yes, I did the stats on it, though I haven’t posted them (BAD BAD ME!!!).
While none of our dear BBC crew has matched their shirts yet, it seems that Jake seems vaguely inspired by DC. Notice his shirt also has two breast pockets. 😉 Maybe he wanted one too after seeing DC wear it a few times last year?
On race day at Melbourne, DC just had to wear a pink shirt. Is there any significance in this choice? 2010 was a long time ago, but DC wore the very same pink shirt at the beginning of the season too.
Wow. Talk about starting the season off in the same way. 😉
Jake’s shirt is more forgettable… a dark tone (eggplant maybe? I’ll have to rewatch the race specifically for this detail)… But please note the double pockets again. Maybe DC really is his muse now? I guess that’s fine as long as Jake doesn’t start dressing like EJ. I have to admit that I was kind of excited to see EJ’s race day shirt in HD. At first glace, I thought EJ was wearing a shirt with oversized polka dots. But it soon became clear (thanks to the HD feed) that EJ’s shirt was merely giving my eyes optical illusions. I’m not quite sure how to describe the pattern… but as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.
Are you all excited for Malaysia? Renault’s “reflective gold” suits… the questionable Malaysian grid girl uniform (I hope they axe those fugly white sandals this year)… EJ’s next shirt choice.
I can’t wait! 🙂
P.S. The screen caps @Misterpigz helped with are actually quite good… but somehow wordpress is enlarging all of my photos and making them grainier than the original 😦
Well, this is probably not the case. I am sure Jayson Brunsdon designed the uniform well before the devastating earthquake and tsunami occurred in Japan. However, the red and white color scheme and vaguely belted color blocked midsection, makes me think of a kimono? Hopefully I’m not the only one who thinks this way (but who knows… maybe I am).
The other two uniform options were MUCH MUCH worse. Don’t believe me? Have a look:
OH MY GOD. The sweetheart neckline dress looks like a BAD home sewing project. Kinda like what I made in Clothing Construction 1. LOL… jesus…. And what’s with the pockets on the other design? Do the girls need a place to stash driver phone numbers or something? 😛
Anyhow, it is important to remember Japan still needs help. Continue donation and support efforts! As I mentioned on twitter, I will be attending a charity event set up by my coworkers. So if you are in the San Francisco Bay Area… I guess this is your chance to stalk me.
